Experimental online magazine, Flyp, has lost its funding and will close its website. Interestingly, Flyp is up for a Webby Award this year, and you can still vote for it. It is up against such luminaries as Wired, National Geographic, and others.
The company's CEO told reporters Flyp Media will continue creating interactive content for other websites under an unannounced name, but the flagship website itself will close its doors. Though Flyp is laying-off its dozen workers, several are likely to be rehired for other projects.
The online magazine managed to retain a decent-sized readership, but failed to bring-in new readers. Though it made some money, websites are more concerned with the number of "hits," visitors, than anything else. I admit, this is the first time I have ever heard of the magazine!
Flyp's sister-site in Mexico, Reporte Indigo, will continue.
