A blogger named Karin lost her job at a New York law firm and was forced to move to St. Louis, where housing and living costs are more affordable. Karin started a blog about St. Louis eateries and included Google AdSense banners. She responsibly reported her earnings of approximately $1.30/day and promptly lost her unemployment benefits!
Karin says she received three different answers when she called the state labor board and asked how to report the earnings. She was told she didn't have to report them, she only had to report them whenever she received a check, and that she needed to report every time the blog was updated.
Officials are investigating her "home business" - which she says generated less than $250 in total - and have suspended her unemployment benefits until the investigation is complete. She has since removed the ads.
