LiveJournal, one of the oldest blogging communities, has been sold to a Russian firm. SUP has been running the Russian-language LiveJournal under license since October 2006.
While reports indicate that LiveJournal pulled far less visitors than some similar sites (Facebook, MySpace), SUP claims the statistics underestimate LiveJournal's audience. The reports say LiveJournal drew roughly 4 million visitors in October, as opposed to the nearly 40 million on Facebook and 72 million on MySpace.
LiveJournal was first set up in 1999 by a 19-year old who worked on it until last year, when he left to join the Web monopoly, Google.
